Peppermint Slouchy Cardi

Alrighty guys, so these posts are totally not going to be in chronological order of makes, cos organization is totally overrated and I choose to blog at my whim.

This cardigan I just finished making this week (it is AMAZING the number of hours in a weekend you have to sew when you are stuck at home and unable to go out). It's a free pattern (LOVE IT) from Peppermint sewing school - the slouchy cardi

I made it from a piece of merino remnant I had been hoarding for a year or two from The Fabric Store. (I have a problem with hoarding pretty fabrics. I buy them and then am too scared to cut into them lest I ruin it. So I put them carefully folded into boxes and then go off and buy more fabric. The cycle repeats and before you know it I have enough to start a small fabric shop of my own. Does anyone else have this issue?)

Anyway before I get shipped off to Fabricholic Anonymous I thought I'd better make some progress into my stash. I had read quite a lot of reviews of this cardi online before starting my own (In particular all the little happy things who had made this several times). Based on this I made the following changes to my version - I cut a size A:

  • Shortened the length by 4 inches
  • Shortened sleeves by 1.5 inch, and widened by 1", then narrowed the sleeve cuff by 1" so I got more of a tight sleeve cuff and a slight puff to the sleeve end
    • though I feel like this could have been further exaggerated.
    • Next time I think I can make the sleeves a smidge longer and even wider still, and shave a bit off the sleeve cuff length instead as it is currently quite long in proportion to the sleeve
  • I also added a waist tie (just managed to squeak it out of what little merino I had left) and added two thread loops to the sides of the cardigan to hold it in place. So I can wear it more securely (like a bathrobe :D)

I managed (just) to cram it into a 1.3mx 1.5m piece with the above changes, however it did mean my waist tie ended up a bit shorter than I would liked.
Still I am very pleased with this cardigan, and am already getting plenty of wear from it just at home. Can't wait to wear it out once I am allowed to venture out into the world again!

I leave you with one last photo of me in ever increasingly creative posing (seriously someone should give classes in this it is hard...)
